Two Hackathons, 200+ Students, and the Road Ahead

In less than a year, Pebble hosted two national hackathons, welcomed over 200 students, and grew from a single school club to 10 chapters across the country.

What we’ve seen is that when students are given space to build, they take it seriously. Teams shipped projects that tackled everything from financial literacy to environmental monitoring. Some used advanced tools. Others built with Google Slides and Figma. Both types of submissions mattered equally—because the focus was always on ideas, not polish.

Organizing these events taught us how to keep things simple and scalable. We leaned on templates, async workflows, and a lot of direct outreach. But more than anything, we relied on students to bring their own energy. Mentors helped when they could, but the strongest learning happened between peers.

Now we’re taking what we’ve learned and using it to build the next phase of Pebble: a self-paced course platform.

The goal is to support students year-round—not just during events. We want to make it easier for any student, anywhere, to start building. No long lectures. No locked content. Just real-world projects, explained clearly, with room to explore. If you’re stuck, you’ll be able to get feedback from mentors or friends who’ve been there before.

This new platform is coming soon. Until then, thank you to every student, teacher, and volunteer who helped us get here. You’ve shaped what Pebble is and what it’s becoming.

We’re just getting started.
